Description The fine Shropshire Light Infantry medal group to Warrant Officer Edward Victor Apted who enlisted in 1906, served in India then throughout the Great War only to die, whilst serving, from a stroke at the age of 43 years. Of interest, the rank on the Star is unusual in that it refers to him as O.R. Sjt – Orderly Room Serjeant. Death Notice – Shrewsbury Chronicle – Friday 22nd May 1931. War Veteran’’s Death. — Quarter Master Sergeant Edward Victor Apted, of the K.S.L.I. Barracks, died suddenly on Tuesday at the age of 43. He had an apoplectic stroke early in the afternoon, and was taken to the Infirmary, where he died without regaining consciousness. A native of Buckinghamshire, he joined the K.S.L.I. in November, 1906, and he served in India from 1907 to 1914. During the Great War he served in France and Salonica, serving altogether from Christmas, 1914, to January, 1919. .He had four medals, the 1914-15 Star. the British War Medal, the Victory Medal and the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. A widow and a ten year old son survive him. The funeral, with military honours, will take place at the general cemetery to-morrow morning at 11 o’clock.
