He enlisted 12th August 1914, serving in the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force from 27th October 1916. prior to transferring to the Royal Defence Corps (service number 74290) where he served in 72nd Protection Company He was discharged 16th March 1919 with Silver War Badge number B303902, due to sickness with malaria.
