Description Prussian campaign medal of 1814 This medal was awarded to soldiers who fought in the Napoleonic Wars. King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia established the medal in December 1813. The medal was awarded to soldiers who fought in the field or defended a fortress. It was also known as King Frederick William III’s Ehrenzeichen, which means “honor medal” The center of the medal featured the inscription “VERDIENST UM DEN STAAT”, which means “Meritorious Service to the State” Prussia was a key member of the coalition that fought against Napoleonic France and this coalition won the war at Waterloo on June 18, 1815
