Description Queen’s Sudan Medal 1899 named to 3923 Pte. D. Hill. 2 / Lan: Fus. David Carter Hill was an 8 year old collier born in Manchester when he attested into the Lancashire Fusiliers at Belfast 1892. His character is described as “very bad” and he was tried on numerous occasions. He served, during his first 12 years in India, Egypt, Crete, Malta and South Africa. Confirmed on roll for this Queen’s Sudan Medal and the Khedive’s Medal. Also entitled to the Queen’s South Africa Medal with Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal and Laings Nek clasps and King’s South Africa Medal with 01 and 02 clasps. Also entitled 1914 Star trio – August 1914 he re-enlisted into the South Wales Borderers entering France 13th November 1914, later 336736 Pte Royal Welsh Fusiliers when injured accidentally 10th June 1919 whilst on sentry duty. During his service in Gibraltar 1918 he was tried for absence and drunkenness. His Great War service saw him serve in France (68 days, ) and Gibraltar ( 3 years 54 days).
