Description Queen’s South Africa Medal to a Private in the 2nd Battalion Somerset Light Infantry. Thomas Bowden was born in Bristol and he was an 18 year old labourer when he enlisted into the Somerset Light Infantry in July 1899 at Taunton. He served in excess of 15 years of which 1 year 10 months in the Cape and close to 5 years in East India. He was living in Pontardawe, Glamorgan at the outbreak of the Great War but was discharged no longer physically fit for service 5th November 1914.
