Description The Great War 1914 Star, with clasp, medal trio to William Henry Roberts, 15th Hussars. He served in India for 6 years 4 months from December 1900 to April 1907. He transferred to the Reserve from 1907 to August 1914. From the Regimental Depot at Bristol the 15th transferred to Longmoor Camp, Hampshire en route to France. Roberts entered France 21st August 1914 with A Squadron, 15th (The King’s) Hussars, in the 3rd Division. He was finally discharged, time served of 17 years, 23rd April 1916. He was discharged from B Squadron at Bristol, his character being described as Very Good, having served in the British Expeditionary Force in France for 1 year 238 days. The regiment spent the entire First World War (1914-18) on the Western Front, engaged in mounted reconnaissance duties and then dismounted service. Among the Regiment’s many battle honours in the BEF, during Roberts’ period of service in the Great War, were Mons (1914), the Marne (1914), Ypres (1914). William Henry Roberts was a 19 year old labourer when he attested on the 24th April 1899.
